A series of games across Metro Detroit will be played for a good cause this high school hockey season.
Charitable organization Hockey has Heart has organized the 2017-18 Charity Face-off Series, which will feature a collection of rivalry games that will serve as fundraisers for hockey families in need.
“Hockey, and especially youth hockey is made up of a very special group of people,” said Lucy Oakleaf, president of the charitable organization. “The hockey community is like one large family, enjoying fun competition, comradery and caring for each other.”
“While you sometimes wonder about the world we are living in, I truly believe that most people have a huge heart and want to help others.”
The schools will be raising money through gate sales, silent auctions and other means. All of the proceeds will be given to Hockey has Heart to be distributed to hockey families in times of challenges.
Fourteen teams will be taking part in the Charity Face-off Series:
Nov. 11 – Arctic Edge Showcase (girls)
- Ann Arbor Pioneer vs. Cranbrook – 4:30 p.m.
- Plymouth-Canton-Salem vs. Walled Lake – 5:30 p.m.
- MSU Women’s Varsity vs. MI Select – 7:30 p.m.
Nov. 17-18 – Farmington Hills Ice Arena Baseline Battle
- Farmington and Farmington Hills Unified vs. Livonia Churchill and Livonia Franklin
Dec. 1-2
- Catholic Central vs. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s
Dec. 20/Feb. 16
- Brother Rice vs. Cranbrook
