Halftime Recharge Leads To Victory

John Ortiz runs from Bandit defenders.

The New Hampshire Charge (2-0) were true to their name as they came charging back to beat the Boston Bandits (1-1) in the 4th quarter, 23-14.

The Bandits scored first when Clarzell Pearl threw a screen pass to RB Leon “Lucky” Barnes for a 25 yard score and a 7-0 lead. Chandler Ransom of the Bandits would intercepted an errant throw from QB Alexi Colon and return it 65 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 advantage in the first quarter. Ransom would later intercept a second pass in the third quarter. The Bandit defense held the Charge out of the end zone on the 5 yard line to end the first half.

A Charge interception of their own in the third quarter sparked the comeback that eventually saw John Ortiz score from 5 yards out. The Charge tied the game with just over 3 minutes left when Colon found an open Mark Roberts over the middle for a 22 yard strike. The Bandits moved the ball into New Hampshire territory but a 4th down pass was intercepted by Gavin Anderson and returned to the Bandits’ 16 yard line, setting up a 35 yard field goal by Ryan Post and a 17-14 lead with 9 seconds left in the game. The Bandits would attempt a hook and lateral on the last play of the game that ended up being recovered by the Charge in the endzone for a 23-14 final.

The Charge next host the North Shore Generals (0-2) at Manchester Memorial High School while the Bandits host the Southern Maine Raging Bulls (1-1) at English High School.
