Taunton quarterback Matt Letourneau threw three touchdown passes in the game
Taunton, MA – The Taunton Gladiators defeated the Southern Maine Raging Bulls 36-28 Saturday night at Taunton High School.
The Raging Bulls came ready to play as Southern Maine safety Kyle Roberts stripped and recovered the football returning it to the 1 yard line. One play later running back Jordan Jones punched it in for 6 where a Henry Nell extra point would make it 7-0 Bulls after the first quarter.
Gladiators got on the board in the 2nd quarter, when Henry Nell’s field goal attempt was blocked by the Gladiators Nick Rossi and returned for a touchdown by CK Miles to tie the game at 7-7
After a three-and-out by the Bulls the Gladiators offense took control as Matt Letourneau connected with Mark Evora for a deep strike and Jeremie Chumack rushed for his first touchdown of the season as time expired in the half. 20-7 Glads.
Maine and Taunton trades series until Letourneau connected with Mark Evora and Marcus Grant to go up 36-7 early in the 4th.
Southern Maine surged late as saftey Kyle Roberts took an interception to the house, quarterback Ryan Stroud connected with Deon Wiggins stoke and a rushing touchdown brought the game within one score. A failed onside kick with under a minute to play would put the game away 36-28 in favor of the Gladiators.
On Sunday Taunton (2-0) travel to Manning Field in Lynn to take on the North Shore Generals (1-1). Saturday Southern Maine (1-1) will be in Manchester to play the New Hampshire Nor’easter (0-1).
