MERIDEN, CT- The Panthers jumped out to a 22-0 lead to defeat the Chiefs in the Colonial Conference Divisional Round. The win sends the Panthers to their fourth straight Semifinal Round game.
The Panthers dominated play early with quarterback Rich Snowden hitting Ziggy Bailey for an 11 yard score. Later in the half Jamie Bryant was inserted and found an open Akwon Shabazz in the end zone. With time expiring in the half Bryant took the snap, changed directions three times before finding Kyle Watkins for a 23 yard touchdown catch to deflate the upstart Chiefs. “After two tight regular season games against each other few people thought this would be how the Chiefs would start the game” said a fellow conference coach, “the Panthers come to play in the playoffs”.
The second half saw the Champions defense take over the game. David Reese, Dustin Lindon, and Moose Welch all found their way to quarterback Dino Mancinelli for drive stopping sacks. The final nail in the coffin came when Shante Wynn picked off a pass and returned it 50 yards for the final Panther score of the night. “Our defense closes out the game” said Lindon, “if our offense gets a lead it’s our job to secure it”.
The panthers will travel to Danbury Saturday night to take on the Western Connecticut Militia who defeated the Pioneer Valley Knights in their playoff match up.
