Militia Stands On Top

Militia defenders sacked Chiefs’ Dino Mancinelli six times.                            

DANBURY, CT- In a matchup of two of the top quarterbacks in the NEFL, the Western Connecticut Militia defense was the difference in their 25-6 victory over the Connecticut Chiefs. The win has pushed the Militia in to first place in the AAA South.
The Militia got on the board early when a poor snap to the Chiefs punter found its’ way through their end zone resulting in a safety. On their next defensive stand, the Militia’s Marcus Pouncey picked up a loose ball and returned it 16 yards for a score and a 9-0 first quarter lead. “I was in my rush lane and I saw the ball; just like we work on at practice I scooped and scored” said Pouncey.

In the second quarter, the Militia’s quarterback Kevin Oberg punched the ball in from the one yard line giving his team a 15-0 lead at the half.

The Militia’s defensive line pressured quarterback Dino Mancinelli the entire game. Defensive end PerQuan Moore had one of his team’s six sacks. Moore also collected an interception, a forced fumble, and recorded a safety in the fourth quarter. “Quan was all over the field today” said Pouncey, “when our defense is playing like that we are real hard to stop.” The Militia sealed the victory in great defensive form when safety Raq Taft picked up a Mancinelli fumble and ran into the end zone from 61 yards out.

The only undefeated team in the highly competitive Colonial (AAA) Conference, the Militia are eyeing an opportunity to stake their claim as the best team in the NEFL. “It feels good to be on top right now but we know too well that early success mean nothing” said owner Carl Oberg, “all these wins do now is give us confidence and experience for the games down the stretch; this is still anybody’s division.”
