Grudge Match #2

The Bulls defense is one of the top squads this season

PORTLAND, ME – In a matchup between the two northern most opponents in the Colonial Conference (AAA), the Southern Maine Raging Bulls host the New Hampshire Charge in our WEEK 4 NEFL GAME OF THE WEEK. “It was a tight match up with them in week one,” said Bulls Head Coach Ronnie Bates, “we expect the same this weekend.” The opening weekend of the season saw the Charge outlast the Bulls 16-12 in what plans on being a great rival between the two standout programs.

After their week one defeat, the Bulls have strung together two consecutive wins, both over traditional playoff contenders, the Boston Bandits and the Connecticut Bearcats. Against the Bearcats, the Bulls played their most complete game by limiting their opponent to just over 80 yards of offense. They also racked up 41 points behind the guidance of first year starting quarterback Issiah Bachelder. Bachelder has thrown 4 touchdowns whiles completing more than half of his passes. His top target is do-everything athlete Joe Hicks who has three scoring catches. The ground attack is still headed by future Hall of Famer Phil Warren but Bates has a lot of players making big plays for the Bulls this season. “We have a lot of young talent on this team; a lot of guys who I expect to be impact guys for years to come.”

The darlings of the early season, the 2-0 Charge were upset at home last week by the North Shore Generals. The narrow 2 point defeat should refocus the Charge and prepare them for this week’s battle. “They may have looked past the Generals last week,” said NEFL Representative Bernie Armstrong, “although they were 0-2, the Generals are a solid squad to say the least; there are no easy games this year in the Colonial Conference.”
