North Smithfield, RI – The North Shore Generals traveled to Rhode Island on Saturday night and won the battle of the AAA North unbeaten. The Generals (4-0) beat the Wardogs (3-1) by a score of 14 to 9 in a tough defensive battle marked by big plays.

The Generals defense stymied the Wardogs high-flying offense with a smothering pass rush led by Edward Owens-Finch, Tony Johnson, and Dre Langley. Melvin Taveras collected 3 interceptions for the Generals.

Offensively, the Generals got on the scoreboard first on a 70 yard TD pass from Kelvin Amparo to Jesse Fowler. The Wardogs answered with a TD passing score of their own when Jeff Costa found an open Marquem Monroe who sprinted to the end zone. However, Owens-Finch blocked the extra point and the Generals had a 7 to 6 lead at halftime.

The Wardogs took a lead early in the third quarter on a field goal by Francesco Giusti.

The Generals came right back with a long scoring drive capped by an Amparo 12 yard TD run to put the Generals up for good, 14 to 9.

“AAA North is a dogfight every week. It is going to be an exciting season,” said Generals’ GM Kevin Donahue. “When you play in a division with established powerhouse teams like the Bandits, Nor’easter, and Raging Bulls, you have to be ready to play your best football every week. Add in the AA champs from the last two years with the Wardogs and the Rampage, it’s a hell of a division.”
