Chiefs Win Opener

CHIEFS WIN OPENER
HAMDEN, CT – The Connecticut Chiefs displayed a balanced attack as they defeated the feisty Western Mass Warriors 26-6 in their home opener.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Chiefs get on the board behind a 14 yard run by Aaron Taylor. Later in the 2nd quarter All Star Akeem Wright darted through would be tacklers for a 45 yard punt return for a score to give the Chiefs a 14-0 lead heading into the half.
The Western Mass Warriors played tough all afternoon. An interception by Garrett Kendziera gave the Warriors a jolt in the second half. A 45 yard drive was capped by a 2 yard run by Chris Boarders to put Western Mass on the board.
The third quarter saw Chiefs quarterback Dino Mancinelli connects with Wright for a score. Kevin Wolfolk concluded the scoring for the day with a short run in the fourth quarter. “They still have a lot of football left in them” said Mancinelli regarding the Warriors, “we put some good things together today but we know we have to be playing our best next week”.
Next week the Chiefs take on the Connecticut Panthers. The Chiefs look to give the Panthers their first 0-2 record in team history.
