TALE OF THE TAPE

LAWRENCE, MA- As the final days of the New England Football League’s 2014 season approach, we take a better look at the final teams standing in AAA.

Losing in the final seconds of their week one battle with the Western Connecticut Militia, the Connecticut Panthers 11 game win streak is only trumped by the Southern Maine Raging Bulls 12 game run. As we view the strengths and weakness of both teams, the match-up between the Raging Bulls dominate offense against the stifling Panthers defense will be what most fans are excited to tune in to. “Something is going to give” said Western Mass Warriors Junior Williams. “Everyone knows that the Bulls are going to try to run the ball down your throat each and every play; that being said there isn’t a better team against a ground attack than the Panthers.” Look below and see how this the two teams will match up Saturday night:

RAGING BULLS (Offense)   PANTHERS (Defense)
ALEXIS COLON has quietly completed an All Star level season in Portland Maine. Colon has completed nearly 60% of their passes.
VS.
6’3 safety SIR SNOWDEN will see everything from his position in the middle of the field. Snowden is also a great impact player in the running game.
Although JON WEICHMAN is leading the league in scoring with 13 touchdowns, the Bulls running game with be placed on PHIL WARREN’s broad shoulders. The veteran has collected more rushing yards than anybody in the NEFL over the past 6 years and is only getting better.
VS.
Linebackers TYLEE FLOWERS, COURT SUTHERLAND and GERALD PATRICK have become the best linebacking squad in the league. Great run stoppers, they all can cover route runners and get after the passer.
A run first offense, receiver MARK ROBERTS has been able to add balance to the Bulls attack. The 6’2 Roberts has pulled in a league leading 10 scoring passes this season. Roberts won a NEFL Championship with Lowell in 2009.
VS.
SHONTE WYNN has solidified himself as one of the league’s top defenders. A big corner back at 5’11, Wynn finished the regular season with 3 interceptions while collecting 3 defensive touchdowns.
Offensive line BRIAN WOODBURY is one of the Raging Bulls top linemen. A great athlete, Woodbury can play both tackle and guard and is an intricate part of the teams’ 350+ rushing yards per game.
VS.
One of the league most dominate defensive linemen over the past few years, DAVID REESE combines superior speed with great strength. A playmaker, Reese scored 3 defensive touchdowns this year.

We can’t forget the fact that the Panthers Rich Snowden threw a league high 21 touchdown passes and that Jamie (Rocket) Bryant who dominated last season’s playoffs ran for 116 yards in the Division Championships. Also remember that the Raging Bulls have allowed less than 7 points per contest and defensive back Lonnie Edwards has collected 5 interceptions and is in consideration for Defensive Player of the Year. “We lined up against both of these teams this year” said Williams,” I know how good they were this year; they clearly are the two top teams in the league this year”.
