Boston’s defense kept Lowell in check all night
BOSTON, MA- Matching up for a record 17th straight season, the Boston Bandits’ team speed was too much for the rebuilding Nor’easter to handle. The Bandits 21-6 victory gives them a 3-0 record and first place in the Eastern Division.
Boston opened the first quarter with a 49 yard touchdown strike from Adam Headly to Shane Cheltenham. Later in the quarter the second year signal caller connected with Daryl Sweet for a 7 yard scoring toss giving them a 14-0 first half lead.
The third quarter saw the Bandits running game get on the board as Jadiem Brooks plunged in from the one yard line. “As well as we played offensively, our defense was the key tonight” said Coach Bustin. The Bandits held Lowell to just over 100 yards of offense on the night and gave Headly great field position throughout the game. Secondary standout Alvin Edwards recorded two pass deflections while Leighton Lormeu had a key fumble recovery which kept the Nor’easter out of scoring position during a promising drive.
A 69 yard touchdown run by Nate Adames gave Lowell their only score of the night. “We have a lot of work to do but we’ll take the win tonight; this is a good team (Lowell), as always, we expect them to continue to get better as the season grows-that’s their way.” This week Lowell will travel to the New Hampshire Wolfpack while Boston heads south to take on the Hartford Whalers.
