HAMDEN, CT – The Connecticut Bearcats needed an extra period to decide the winner in their 28-22 victory over the much improved Western Mass Armor. The victory gives the Bearcats sole possession of first place in the division with only two regular season games left to play. “We’re trying to put ourselves in good possession for the post-season,” said quarterback Rich Snowden, “we had to pull out all the stops this week against the Armor to get the win.” Snowden and the Bearcats defeated the Armor 12-6 in their week two matchup. “They play us very tight to say the least.”

The back and forth battle saw the Bearcats get on the board first when defensive back Will Melvin picked off a pass from Aaron Flythe and head up field. Being tackled by an Armor player, Melvin lateraled the ball to Tevin Moye for the first score of the game. The Armor answered right back with a touchdown pass from Flythe. “He’s having an amazing year; he never stops throwing the ball,” said a Bearcats player.

With two minutes the play, the Armor had possession of the ball and an 8 point lead. “We needed a big play from somewhere; we been relying on our defense all season so today was no different,” said head coach Dom Colivito. As the Armor ran the ball into the line to preserve a victory, Bearcats defenders were looking to force a fumble. A well-timed punch of the football put the ball on the ground and into arms of DeVante Credle giving the Bearcats hope.

Richie Snowden connects with Vinny Muli for a 28 yard reception that placed the ball in the red zone. A short run and two-point conversion by Montrell Dobbs and the game was headed to overtime.

In the extra period, the Bearcats used a huge kick return by Treymaine Barnes to get them deep into Armor territory. “I think we just took the wind out of them in the end of the fourth quarter,” said Barnes. Three plays later Dobbs scoring run ended the game and continued the Bearcats winning streak. After losing week one to the Western Connecticut Militia, the Bearcats have run off seven consecutive victories which is the longest in AAA this season.
