Bandits Roll

MERIDEN, CT- The Boston Bandits used 27 points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Connecticut Panthers 34-7 in league play Saturday night. “The score doesn’t show how tight of a game this was,” said a Bandit coach. “We just pulled it together in the end when it counted.”
The majority of the first half saw both defenses controlling the flow of the game. “Both teams were flying to the ball most of the night. Nobody was letting the offense get in any type of rhythm.” The stalemate was broken towards the end of the second quarter when Giovanni Sanders found a streaking Bernard Davis for a 35 yard scoring reception. The extra point by Hermes Lima gave the Bandits a 7-0 lead going into intermission.
The third quarter saw the Bandits continue their relentless pressure of Panthers ball carriers. Marquis Eberhart, league leader in touchdown passes, spend most of the game avoiding defenders like Peter Ngobidi and Greg Dominique. The Panthers inserted Jamie Bryant at quarterback and saw him engineer a 56 yard drive culminating in a touchdown pass to cut the lead to one point at the start of the 4th quarter.
With the games momentum shifted to the home team, the Bandits sent Andre Williams back deep to return the kickoff. “We could see their sidelines excited-we let them back in the game,” said Williams. “All I wanted was for everyone to block their man.” Block they did. Williams took the ensuing kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown that silenced Falcon Field and dashed the hopes of a comeback by the Panthers.
The following Panthers possession saw Bryant throw an errand pass to Asante Easter for a 38 yard interception return for a backbreaking score. Later in the fourth quarter Davis pulled in his second touchdown pass of the game. Darryl Cyprian closed out the scoring for the night as he rushed 15 yards into the endzone literally untouched by the Panthers defense.
“Boston is showing why they won it all last season and may be the favorite to win the NEFL Championship again this year,” said League Representative Bernie Armstrong. “Both their lines were dominate tonight. Their skill guys are tough and they may have the best player in the league in Williams.”
In Week 6 the Bandits look to continue their top-notch play against the Southern Maine Raging Bulls in Boston. The Panthers will go on the road and take on the Troy City Titians.
