Bandits Bounce Back With a Win

Michael Searcy led the Bandit defense with two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown

The Boston Bandits, the 2015 AAA defending champions, bounced back from their opening game loss to the Rhode Island Wardogs by defeating the 2015 AA champions, Somerville Rampage 20-12 at English HS in Jamaica Plain, Ma.

Things got off on the wrong foot when the Bandits fumbled the opening kick-off, however, the defense was able to prevent the Rampage from capitalizing. The defense would later provide the Bandits with the lead in the second quarter as Michael Searcy picked off the first of two interceptions on the day, returning the first 30 yards for a touchdown. The PAT failed. The Bandits would score again in the quarter behind a 1 yard dive by QB Clarzell Pearl. JT Harold’s 2 point run put the Bandits ahead 14-0 at the half.

The Rampage cut the lead to 14-6 in the 3rd quarter when QB Giovanni Sanders found Bobby Novello in the end zone for a 1 yard reception. The 2 point conversion failed. The Bandits answered with a big return by “Arizona”, Ricardo Edwards, setting the Bandits up at the Rampage 30 yard line, but this time it was the Rampage’s defense led by DE Peter Bien-Aime that thwarted the Bandit scoring drive. The Bandits were able to extend their lead early in the fourth on another Pearl 1 yard touchdown run for a 20-6. The Rampage closed the gap after Jonathan Walton scored on a 1 yard run, closing the gap to 20-12 with under 2 minutes to go. The Bandits recovered the onside kick and JT Harold’s 27 yard run put the game on ice.

The Bandits next travel to the North Shore Generals (2-0) at the Manning Bowl while Somerville hosts the Lowell Nor’easter (1-1) at Dilboy Stadium.
