2019 Colonial Conference Championship Game

The Leo Lombardi Trophy will be awarded for the 26th time and this year a new team will get to engrave their name on it.

The New England Football League’s Colonial Conference championship game will be played this Saturday afternoon in Marlborough, Massachusetts between the Marlboro Shamrocks and the North Shore Generals. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30pm.

While this is the Shamrocks’ first season in the NEFL they are no strangers to semi-pro football and championship games. Prior to this year the Shamrocks were known as the Mass Fury, a successful team in the Eastern Football League, making the EFL title game five times and winning it once. With the move to Marlborough, the Fury adopted the moniker of the storied Shamrocks team and look to add to the rich history of semi-pro football in the city. After finishing the regular season 8-2, Marlboro entered the playoffs as the #2 seed and defeated #7 Troy City Titans and the #4 Taunton Gladiators, their rival team who also joined the NEFL this season.

The North Shore Generals, who play their home games in Lynn, Massachusetts, will be making the trip down Route 20 West looking for their third win on the road in this year’s postseason. Members of the NEFL since 2006, North Shore has reached the finals only once, in 2012, which coincidentally is the last time the NEFL’s championship game was played between two teams from the Bay State. Entering the playoffs as the #6 seed, the Generals have defeated #3 Middleboro Cobras and the previously undefeated #1 Boston Bandits to earn their spot in the championship game.

In their only meeting during the regular season the Shamrocks defeated the Generals 14-12 on September 14 in Lynn, Ma.
