Bandits Rebound

DB Darrell Goss and WR Darryl Hodge on the line of scrimmage during last Saturday’s game.

Jamaica Plain, Ma. – The Bandits were coming into the game after a disappointing Week 1 loss to the Rhode Island Wardogs. The pundits were saying the Bandit era was over. They were facing a North Shore General team that was sky high after shocking the NEFL by beating the last years runners-up for the AAA championship, Southern Maine Raging Bulls 32-27 in their opener.

The Bandits, dressed if their new all white FTL uniforms, rose to the occasion. Holding off the Generals’ first possession, the Bandits scored on theirs when Adam Headley found Daryl Hodge on a slant for an 8 yard touchdown reception. Hodge would also thwart a General scoring chance in the second quarter by intercepting a Kelvin Amparo pass in the endzone.

The Generals made their own stop when DeVaughn Goss intercepted a Will Johnson pass near the goal line and raced 70 yards before getting tackled. The Generals lined up for a FG before the half, but with the Bandits only having ten players on the field, a time out was called. As it turns out, that cost the Bandits as they blocked the field goal, only to have the Generals get a reprieve. Klenis Haxhiaj made the Bandits pay by hitting a 39 yard field goal.

Both team’s defenses took control of the game in the third quarter with defensive linemen Eddie Owens-Lynch of the Generals and Daniel Gibson of the Bandits making big plays. The Bandits would add two field goals early in the fourth quarter by Chris Conroy (40 and 41 yards) to push the Bandit lead to 13-3. The Generals would not go quietly into the night behind Amparo’s arm and legs, and Jesse Fowler’s speed. Amparo would find another Jesse (Fowler) for a 35 yard touchdown strike with minutes left in the game to cut the lead to 13-9. The Bandits were able to run out the clock thanks to a big run by JT Harold. Also making some important 1st down catches for the Bandits was Shane Cheltenham.

The Bandits next travel to Maine to take on the Bulls while the Generals take on the Natives.
