NORTH MVP'S

PORTLAND, ME – The North Division saw newcomer Maine Sabers run the table with a undefeated regular season and the host of the NEFL Championship game. Key players pushed both the Sabers and the balance of the division to great heights this season. The following are the top two players in the division and the coaching staff that made the largest impact in 2013.
OFFENSIVE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Phil Warren (Southern Maine Raging Bulls) – When you think of minor league football in Maine, Phil Warren is the first name that comes to mind. Warren has won the MVP award an unbelievable 5 times in the past 6 seasons. He has rushed for more yards and scored more touchdowns than any NEFL running back over the last 5 seasons. A bruiser at 6'2 265, Warren still has the ability to run around would be tacklers while punishing others. &ldquot;He is the standard backs in this league are measured, he is an easy future Hall of Famer.&rdquot;
DEFENSIVE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Anthony Hicks (Maine Sabers) – Next to the Panthers Jamie Bryant, Hicks was the league's most versatile player. An All American safety from the University of Maine, Hicks has the ability to take away half of the field as a cover guy and lay the lumber to would be ball carriers. At 6'3, Hicks became an easy target for quarterback Jeremy Shorey especially near the end zone. With his break-away speed, Hicks was utilized as a kick returner as well. &ldquot;He scored on defense, offense, and special teams this season&rdquot; said GM Steve Goodrich, &ldquot;when we needed a big play we called on Anthony; no matter what the situation was.&rdquot;
COACHING STAFF: Maine Sabers– The Sabers coaching staff brought a 4-win team last year to an undefeated season and national acclaim. Coach Jim Walsh and staff took existing players and partnered them with new acquisitions like running back Jon Wiechman and created a bond. &ldquot;Sounds cliché but we really became a family this year; guys really bought into the team first concept and it took us all the way to the championship.&rdquot; When you combine the knowledge of the coaching staff with the recruiting and organization developed by GM Steve Goodrich, expect to see the Sabers in contention for a championship for many years to come.
