MERIDEN, CT- In an amazing scoring display, the Connecticut Panthers defeats the Hartford Whalers 50-7 and improves to 3-1 on the season.
“We’re hitting a stride the last two games” said Coach Welch regarding his team’s success, we hope to keep this rolling heading into the middle of the season.” Last week the Panthers scored 48 points against the then undefeated Western CT Militia only to top their performance tonight. “This week our defense got into the end zone for us; when they can do that we are tough to deal with.”
Running scores were turned in by Taurean Gadson and former Whalers John Chisolm and Todd Carroll. “I still have a lot of friends on the Whalers” said Chisolm, “it felt good squaring off with those guys.” Quarterback Rich Snowden continued his hot hand with scoring tosses to both Akwann Shabazz and Naciki Reid.
The defense continued their dominate play limiting the Whalers to 88 yards of offense. Defense end David Reese had a night to remember picking off an attempted screen pass and sprinting in the end zone for a touchdown in the first half. In the second half Gerald Patrick stripped the ball from a Whaler runner and it was scooped up by Reese for his second score of the night. “He’s always around the ball” said Patrick about Reese, “he had a knack for scoring the ball somehow.” During his 2012 season, Reese was named Defensive Player of the Year after turning in 9 defensive touchdowns for the year.
The Panthers will face the 3-1 Chiefs this weekend at Hamden Hall Stadium. The Chiefs are coming off an exciting 31-28 win over the Militia.
